The Digital Product Passport & Traceability Event Series returns for its third edition on 25 November 2026 in Rome, Italy, at 09:00 CET, bringing together key stakeholders to explore the next steps towards the implementation of Digital Product Passports (DPPs) in the European steel industry.
Entitled “Digital Product Passport & Traceability: DPP for Steel – On the Verge of Implementation,” the event is organised by the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) and its Division Clean Industrial & Energy Systems of the I-SENSE Group, and will be co-organised with and hosted by RINA Consulting – Centro Sviluppo Materiali S.p.A.
As the Digital Product Passport becomes an increasingly important element of the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the steel sector is moving closer to its practical implementation. As one of the priority sectors identified under the ESPR Working Plan, steel is currently at a crucial stage, with ongoing work focusing on product information requirements, carbon-footprint reporting, interoperability and the practical deployment of DPP solutions.
Against this background, the 3rd DPP Event will provide a dedicated forum for policymakers, industry representatives, technology experts and European research projects to exchange knowledge and experiences and discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with DPP implementation in the steel value chain.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the evolving European regulatory landscape, discuss how digital technologies can facilitate traceability and environmental data exchange, address interoperability and carbon-footprint reporting requirements, and learn directly from industry stakeholders already preparing for DPP implementation. The discussions will also seek to identify shared challenges, priorities and possible pathways towards effective deployment. The draft agenda is available here.
This year’s edition will particularly spotlight the SMARTCHAIN project, which is contributing to the digital transformation of the steel value chain by supporting secure data sharing, system interoperability and stronger collaboration between steel producers and users.
Through dialogue between policy, research, technology and industry, the event aims to contribute to a common understanding of the requirements and practical steps needed for successful DPP deployment, while supporting Europe’s broader transition towards a more digital, circular and sustainable steel industry.
